A very well written, and captivating non-fiction work on why sleep is so vital to our health, both physical and mental. Because I have a serious sleep disorder, I was totally captivated, and finished the book by, you guessed it, staying awake all night!

I lack the ability to go into REM (otherwise known as Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This is the time when we become truly rested. The time of dreams.

For years now I have had to take a very large dose of the medication Trazadone  in order to wake up feeling refreshed. Otherwise I describe my sleep as trying to cross the English channel, by walking. I take a step (go down into sleep) and then come up for air (quite literally completely wake up, reposition, and go back down to sleep) .It took three tries of varying dosages of medication to get it right. But I can sleep now and awake refreshed the next morning.

But just what does happen when the body doesn't get the restful sleep it needs?

Dr. Kryger goes about explaining this so that even the most common of man can understand it. He explains the various kinds of inability to rest when attempting to sleep, their side effects, both now and in the long run. He explains the detriment to health both physical and mental in not obtaining rest when sleeping.

Where were you Dr. Kryger when I was younger, and needed to know these things when I was trying to raise my children? I could have saved myself the hassle of unrest and went straight to my physician for help, instead of thinking I was crazy! (LOL)

I found this book to be one of the most helpful, and insightful books I have read in quite some time. Perhaps because it deals with a personal problem of mine, I read it in one sitting. You got it, sitting up all night reading it.

I rate this book with ...

Paleo Recipes for Rapid Weight Loss

Paleo Recipes for Rapid Weight Loss
50 Delicious, Quick & Easy Recipes to Help Melt Your Damn Stubborn Fat Away!
© 2015 by Fat Loss Nation
Kindle eBook on Amazon.com

I have had to take a long, hard, and emotionally intensive look at my life and make some very difficult decisions. My health isn't the best, and my diet and lifestyle are the cause. My doctor tells me get the weight off and I can come off of most, if not all, of my medications.

Well, I've lost 50 pounds in a little over a year.  And it seems I'm stuck now. Neither losing, nor gaining.

I was introduced to the Whole30 Diet, and  the resemblance to the Paleo Diet is amazing. Those in the know, will understand when I say the similarities are uncanny, but the difference between the two can make or break you through that stubborn fat.

I chose to do the more drastic of the two, which is the Whole30 diet. And I intend to do this for 90 days, and then gradually slip over into the Paleo Diet.

I received Paleo Recipes For Rapid Weight Loss from Amazon.com. (You can find it here.) All I can say is WOW!

I've tried a couple of the recipes already, and they are tasty. I could get used to this!

Breakfast Recipes to include: omelet muffins, pancakes with pureed strawberries, baked eggs with asparagus and leeks, banana walnut muffins, apple cinnamon muffins, steak and eggs, but to name a few!

Lunch Recipes include: salmon with citrus salad, Indian coleslaw, spicy tuna salad, turkey vegetable meatballs, chicken stew, broccoli beef soup, turkey avacado roll-up, and more!

Supper recipes include: Paleo chili, meat loaf, Japanese Ratatouille, Crockpot Lean Beef Stew, and more!

Snack recipes include: baked sweet potato sticks (these are so-o-o good!), baked apple chips, deviled eggs, Goji power bars, and more!

Desserts include: zuchini brownies, almond apple cake, chocolate chip cookies, vanilla pound cake and more!

There is also a whole section on helpful resources, and other links to find out more about the Paleo Diet plan if you are interested. I find that there are many recipes I can use on the Whole30 Diet Plan even now. Later I can add in the extra goodies from this book.

I can't help but give this book...

A Letter to my Anxious Christian Friends - Gushee

A Letter to my Anxious Christian Friends
From Fear to Faith in Unsettled Times
by
David P. Gushee
© 2016 David P. Gushee
First Edition Published by
Westminster John Knox Press, Louisville, KY
ISBN 9780664262686

The dedication page of this book sets the tone immediately with: "To every Christian who tries to love America".

If you are a Christian in America today, you know exactly where this book is headed. It is headed to the fall of a great nation, encouragement to the Saints of today, and the promise of a new world to come.

Gushee is new to me, as I haven't read any of his works before. But I am fully on board with his style. And mostly, his message.

This book couldn't have come at a better time in America's history. Our Country has been torn apart from the latest elections. Recessions. Depressions. Lack of moral fiber. Laws protecting the accused but not the victim in crimes.

All the while, Christians are faced with the ever increasing de-Christianization of America. We can't post the 10-Commandments. We can't say the Lord's Prayer in our schools. If we stand up for what we believe in, we're called fanatics. We're ostracized and put down.

So, how does the Christian today stay faithful, and keep his/her eye on the prize Christ set before us without losing the very essence of what Christ taught us?

Gushee brings things to a simple answer. It's always been simple. It's just not the easy road to follow.

But, then, we are told, "Wide is the gate, and narrow the road,". And we must stick to that narrow road that leads to our rewards. We cannot give in to the ways of the world. We must live in the world, but not of the world.

This is a must read for all Christian in America today. A very real eye opener. And a message that lets us know, we are not in this alone.

This book is available in print or Kindle.
