This book tells the story of "eight women in the underground church and their stories of costly faith". Several lost everything. And I mean EVERY THING! Family (parents, sibling) and including their own children and spouse.

As I was reading I kept thinking, "How do you get past some these losses?" I wondered if I was putting enough faith in God to take as firm a stand as these eight women did? Could I receive word that my husband and two sons were killed by anti-Christian groups, and they were burned alive? Immediately she praised God and offered forgiveness to those responsible.

This book left me with re-dedicating my life to the Lord, and praying for faith to endure at any level.

I am placing this book close to my Bible. I can see myself reading this, just to reassure myself that whatever I am going through, I can praise the Lord as these women did.

I can only give this book...

Seeing Jesus by Jeffrey McClain Jones

ISBN  1483982874
ASIN: B00D8KZH0M

I fell in love with the main character of this book. He suddenly finds himself as the host for Jesus' earthly visit. While "Philly" can see and hear him, Jesus is invisible to everyone else. Except Grandma, after He miraculously healed her.

You will laugh at Philly's adventures. You will ponder the truth's that Jesus shares with him. And you will cry. (This is a half box book!)

What I took away from this book was the fact, that while we do not see Him, Jesus is ever with us as He was with Philly. We may not see His physical body, but with a little practice we can know that He never leaves us! He is there with us around the clock! We need only listen to His voice! He sees us when we act badly, or say something inappropriate. And He talks to us all the time! We need only understand how He does this, and our lives will forever be changed.

I can do nothing less than give this book....

Back at the Desk

Hello Everyone! Yes, it's me! I know you've probably felt like I either abandoned you, I must have died. Am I right? Well, Surprise, Surprise! I am back for another year of writing and reading!

This year I am determined to read 52 books! Yes, I haven't over speculated at how many books, but simply went with one per week.

So, we are three weeks into 2020, and how am I doing?

I'm not doing so well. I often have to take medication and it leaves me sleepy and unable to read. Week three, and I've read two books so far. Is that bad? Never fear, I really do think that I can catch up, and maybe even surpass my goal!

So, be looking here for my book reviews. I write those just before just before I either place the book upon my shelf; or I rotate into my ever growing pile on my Kindle (gotta love the space saving idea of the Kindle, but my favorite will forever be the heft and feel, and sometimes the smell of brand new books, as well as antique ones!

So be watching for my reviews, coming up next!

How to Cook With Lentils by Martha Stone

How to Cook With Lentils

Martha Stone

Kindle Edition
140 pages

I am but one of a two-person household. It makes it hard to cook at times. Especially when one of a pair really is picky. I can eat most anything set in front of me. DH on the other hand, well, he won't admit he's picky, but believe me when I say that he is! Which is why I am so excited that when I asked if he liked lentils, he replied, "Well, I don't know that I've ever tried them!"

My knowledge of how to cook lentils has been limited to what I saw my mother cook of them (which was rare). And that was simply as she would have a pot of beans: boiled with a piece of fatty meat, and used to replace meat for that evening. I have learned I could add other ingredients and leave out the fatty meat, such as fresh produce (potatoes, onions, carrots, spinach, kale, tomatoes, etc.)

Need I say that I was thrilled to get this cookbook offer in my email! I quickly downloaded the book in my Kindle and voraciously read it, virtual cover to virtual cover! I am in heaven and can't wait to try out all of the delicious looking recipes!

There are 7 wonderful chapters in this book:
CHAPTER 1: Use Lentils to Make Some of the Best Breakfasts
CHAPTER 2: Get Inspired and Make the Best Lentils Appetizers
CHAPTER 3: Make Some of the Most Incredible Lentils Salads
CHAPTER 4: Enjoy Some of the Most Popular and Delicious Lentils Soups
CHAPTER 5: Try the Most Amazing Lentil Stews Ever
CHAPTER 6: The Best Lentils Casserole Recipes
CHAPTER 7: Enjoy the Most Unique Lentils Desserts Ever ((hint, hint: this chapter includes an
            red lentils ice cream recipe!)

I can't wait to dig in and get started!!!

I give this book 5 stars:

and a big thumbs up!

Snackable by Alisa Fleming

Snackable
25 Sweet, Savory & Sippable Dairy-Free Recipes

I was a bit underwhelmed by this book, available only at Amazon and for Kindle. Recipes were kind of out there for me. I enjoy simply flavors that I can distinguish fairly easy, however, some of these were too far-fetched for me and my pallet.

One that I cannot begin to wrap my mind around was Baked Sweet Potato Chips with Creamy Date Caramel Dip". Now I can understand the sweet potato chips (which I love!), but a caramel made from dates just doesn't do it for me. (It's like saying "Here, won't you try my prune and fish kabobs?" Or the current commercial on TV which mention the unheard of, but famous, "beetloaf". Gag!)

And there's the smoothie recipe made from beets and berries. Separate I love both. However, neither make me want the flavor both at the same time! My stomach churns just thinking of this one!

Thankfully this was a very short book, and could be read in a quick hour. I saw nothing I wanted to make right away, although in time I will try one or two of the better sounding recipes, to be sure.

At this I do recommend you get your copy now, while they are still free for the Kindle, as no other media is offered. You may find the 25 recipes worth trying!

I give this book

125 recipes for your family that includes main dishes and side dishes. Most are for 350 - calories or less. So you can thoroughly enjoy them even when diet restricted! But even if you're not on a diet, they are packed full of flavor and deliciousness!

I tried the Zucchini Taco Boats. They were so good! Even my hubby couldn't tell that they were as good as they were good for you!

Recipes are well written, and include dietary information, including portion size and calories.  Love that! Recipes are easy to follow. Ingredients were readily available. Instructions were simple, using American measuring system. (A big bonus for me, as I am lost with the metric system!)

I am anxious to try more of these great recipes! I highly endorse and recommend this book! And I give it:

This cookbook will have you salivating at the word go! I was raised on the fringes of German cooking. Mom's Dad was second-generation American from a German immigrant. His wife, my grandmother, was also raised second-generation from the Alsace Region, which is also a great French/German region with similar foods.

In my early adulthood, I spent some time in Europe, living mainly in Germany. I was even more drawn to their cooking! Heavy at times, it still embarks a sense of home and peace, tranquility to me, pulling me back in time to an era before I was even thought of.

It was with great enjoyment I opened this cookbook on my Kindle. Sumptuous kuchen and brotchen recipes were assailing me. I could remember my Oma's kitchen smelling so wonderful!

Spicy pfeffernuse was my first recipe tried. My husband wasn't real thrilled with that. It's sweet, but not as sweet as say an American cookie. But I was smitten with all of the recipe's I was going to try! I haven't tried them all, yet, but I will eventually! They all look amazing!

I give this book my highest recommendations! Recipes are easy to follow. Ingredients are not too hard to find (I purchased everything I needed from our local Kroger grocery store.

    I give this cookbook
